The Tulsa Oilers, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets and AHL’s Manitoba Moose, have announced that rookie forward Dan DeSalvo has signed a Professional Try-Out Agreement with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
DeSalvo, 24, earns his first American Hockey League audition with the Moose during his first professional season.
The 5-foot-8 forward has logged 55 games with the Oilers, producing 51 points (16 goals and 35 assists)—the most of any ECHL rookie this season.
A product of Rolling Meadows, Illinos, DeSalvo spent his four years prior to the Oilers at Bowling Green State University where he registered 102 total points.
The Oilers are on the road Friday when they visit the league-leading Missouri Mavericks at 7:05 p.m CST.
Below is an Oilers excerpt:
Phil Brewer is making his first full season appearance in Tulsa, after joining the Oilers at the end of the 2014-2015 season after his collegiate career concluded. Brewer, a Cambridge, Ontario native, opted for a career in the Ontario Junior Hockey League which would leave him eligible for the rigorous NCAA ameatur standards. This route paid off for the six foot, one inch 195 pound forward.
Brewer started his junior career in the 2007-2008 season with the Burlington Cougars. In his third of four seasons, Brewer finished third on the team with twenty seven goals and forty assists. Brewer’s final season left him as the league’s top scorer with thirty nine goals and an OJHL-best of seventy assists to tally up one hundred and nine points in only forty eight games. He helped to lead the team to a Western Division title and to the quarterfinals where the team was eliminated in six games. Just as he has proven in Tulsa, Brewer has been a strong hand on special teams units.
After spending his freshman year at Bemidji State University located in northern Minnesota, Brewer came out hot his sophomore year. He dressed for thirty one games, and scored a total of five points. His first goal was in his second game as a Beaver. He recorded a career high in penalty minutes with fifteen in a single game against St. Cloud State. This season proved to be strong not only athletically. Brewer, a sports management major, was a member of the WCHA All-Academic Team through the remainder of his collegiate career with Bemidji. The next season, Brewer appeared in every game but one, upped his total points scored to eight, two goals and six assists. He bounced back from all the time spent in the penalty box his sophomore season and scored his first goal of the season against the same team, St. Cloud State. In his final contest with the Beavers, Brewer appeared in every game as a senior co-captain. This was his best season yet! He recorded a career season high of thirteen points with six goals and seven assists, blocked twenty two shots and had a plus/minus rating of +5. Three of his six goals were game winning shots.
In March 2015, Brewer signed with the Tulsa Oilers and on March 21st, Brewer donned an Oilers sweater for the first time. Since he signed his entry-level contract, he has become a prominent member of the Oiler’s lines. In his first partial season, he played only eleven goals, however he managed to score three goals and assist on another. He also made five appearances in playoff games with the Oilers where he earned two points through assists. While Brewer managed to stay out of the penalty box altogether his first season, Brewer has found himself sitting behind the glass on four occasions this season in his fifty game experience. He has also managed to net fifteen goals and assist in twelve more. Brewer played a strong role in the November 20th game versus Missouri where he scored a game-tying goal as well as an assist. In the January 9th battle against Wichita, he posted a four point night against the Thunder, a career high. Since then, Brewer has also registered a three point game versus Allen on January 30th.
