TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose, are allowing fans to show off their artistic side with a “Paint the Ice Party” on Sunday, December 13 immediately following the game against the Missouri Mavericks.

All fans are encouraged to participate by painting a name, a message, or a picture onto the BOK Center ice surface.  The Oilers will play two games on the painted ice against the Wichita Thunder on Friday, December 18 at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, December 19 at 7:05 p.m.

This week, the Oilers are offering a pair of special deals that include tickets to the games and paintbrushes.  A $30 package includes two tickets to the game on December 13, two tickets to the game on December 18 or December 19, two passes to paint the ice, and two paintbrushes.  A $60 package includes four tickets to the game on December 13, four tickets to either the December 18 game or December 19 game, four passes to paint the ice, and four brushes.

The general public can purchase paint the ice passes and brushes for $10 per person and Oilers’ season ticket holders can pay only $5 to receive a pass onto the ice and a brush.  Paint and painting supplies are subject to availability.

The Oilers’ goal is for fans to use the ice as a giant canvas to create a memorable, eye-catching display of varying colors, words, names, and logos.  The idea to allow fans to paint the ice originated during the 2013-14 with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, now the Stockton Heat of the AHL, and the finished product from Stockton can be seen below.  The concept has since been copied by several teams from junior hockey to minor pro hockey, and even by teams in the NHL.

Jeff: Back with you here in Allen, Texas. Jeff Brucculeri with Tulsa Oilers hockey. Glad to have you with us as we take a look at the 1st intermission and the 1st period stats for you.

Allen Americans with the one goal here so far tonight. It came on a shorthanded goal, and it was scored by Dyson Stevenson, his 3rd goal of the season, assisted by Gary Steffes, and that came at 5:37 of the 1st period. Oilers were on a power play, but unfortunately gave up a shorthanded goal at that point in the 1st period, and Allen scored to take a 1-0 lead. That’s the only scoring in the 1st period of play.

Shots on goal in the 1st period tied. Both Tulsa and Allen with nine shots apiece in the 1st period of play. Power play opportunities, Tulsa 0-for-3, Allen 0-for-1 in power play chances. Penalties in this one, 1st period, Parker for Allen had that high sticking minor. That is what set up the shorthanded goal, ultimately, for the Allen Americans.

Then we had a hooking penalty to Aaron Gens. By the way, the high sticking penalty to Parker came at 3:57. Aaron Gens had a hooking minor at 11:05, and just three seconds later, Brandon Wong of the Oilers was called for hooking at 11:08. Then Johnathan Parker was called for a slashing penalty at 14:20 of the first period, and that was the one when I mentioned that I think it was DeSalvo or Brown … Brown or DeSalvo had the stick knocked out of their hands. It was a slashing penalty to Parker, but the Oilers were unable to score on that power play opportunity.

After one period of play, it is tied … It is 1-0, the Americans with the lead. Tied in shots on goal, 9-9, but the Americans with a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

We’ll take a break, we’ll come back with our interview with Brandon Wong when we continue. You’re listening to Tulsa Oilers hockey.
