OILERS PREPARE FOR THREE-GAME CHRISTMAS WEEK

Tulsa looks to finish December strong after dropping three games last week to Alaska and Colorado.

 

OILERS RECORD:  16-10-2, 34 points (2nd – Central Division, 4th – Western Conference)

LAST WEEK:  0-3-0

 

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 14 – ALASKA 3, TULSA 2  (BOK Center)

In the first ever meeting between the Oilers and Aces, Tulsa struck first when Phil Brewer deflected in a shot from the point 34 seconds into the second period. But Peter Sivak tied the game late in the second period, and Justin Breton gave the Aces the lead on a short-handed breakaway about eight minutes into the third. Danick Gauthier evened the score at 2-2 for Tulsa 35 seconds later, but Marc-Andre Levesque’s point shot beat Oilers goaltender Jamie Phillips through a screen for the game winner. Aces goalie Kevin Carr stopped 36 of 38 Oilers chances in the win in his return to Tulsa.

 

FRIDAY, DEC. 16 – COLORADO 4, TULSA 0  (BOK Center)

After a scoreless first period, Jackson Houck gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead 45 seconds into the middle frame. Defenseman Michael Sdao then contributed a short-handed goal to make it 2-0 after two. Veteran Darryl Bootland scored a power play goal and added an empty netter to complete the scoring, while Colorado goaltender Clarke Saunders posted a 34-save shutout, outdueling Tulsa goalie Colin Stevens, who stopped 28.

SATURDAY, DEC. 17 – COLORADO 1, TULSA 0 (SO)  (BOK Center)

The only goal scored in the rematch Saturday came 9:27 into the first period off of a Colorado faceoff win, when Michael Sdao blasted a shot from the point. Jamie Phillips kept the Oilers in it was a 28-save performance, but Saunders stopped 29 for his second straight shutout.

Manitoba Moose forward Dan DeSalvo is tied for the team-lead with 8 goals, and is third on the team with 14 points in 17 games…Forward Kale Kessy has recorded 1 assist in 11 games with Manitoba since his call-up in early November…Former Oiler Jimmy Lodge has 5 goals and 4 assists in 23 games for the Moose this season. Lodge had a goal and 7 assists in 13 games with Tulsa in 2015-16.

 

OIL STREAKS

Jamie Phillips has allowed 3 or less goals in 7 straight starts. The rookie goaltender has allowed just 1 goal five times, and has one shutout so far this season. Forward Phil Brewer has 8 points in his last 10 games. Brewer and Eric Drapluk are the only two Oilers who have played in all 28 games.

MILESTONES

Captain Nolan Julseth-White is 4 games from 250 as a pro, including his time in the ECHL, AHL and France…Danick Gauthier’s next game will be the 200th in his ECHL career…Including regular season and playoff games, Wes Cunningham is 4 games from 500 in his pro career (AHL, ECHL, France and Norway).

The Oilers are in second place in the Central Division and fourth in the Western Conference with 34 points…Jamie Phillips leads all ECHL goaltenders in wins (15), minutes (1,275), saves (646) and shootout wins (3), and has the 5th best goals-against average (2.31)…Tulsa is 10-3-1 when scoring first and 10-5-0 when outshooting their opponent…The Oilers have the 2nd fewest goals-against per game (2.71) and are 9-5-2 in 1-goal games…Tulsa’s power play (7.8%) is 27th in the ECHL, and the Oilers penalty kill (78.6%) is 24th.
