OILERS EARN A POINT IN SHOOTOUT LOSS TO AMERICANS
Tulsa outshoots Allen 47-34, but Stephon Williams leads Americans to shootout win in goaltender’s duel at Allen Event Center.
TULSA, OK – The Allen Americans topped the Tulsa Oilers 2-1 in a seven-round shootout Sunday in a goaltender’s duel at the Allen Event Center.
Tulsa outshot Allen 14-10 in the opening period, but the Americans scored the only goal of the frame on their second power play. Eric Roy skated into the right circle and saw his shot ring off the post and into the net.
The Oilers tied the score at 1-1 with the only goal of the second period, when veteran defenseman Steven Kaunisto buried a loose puck on a scramble in the Allen crease. It was the first goal of the season for Kaunisto, as the teams entered the third period even at one goal apiece.
After a scoreless third period, the two teams skated to overtime for the second straight meeting. It was the fourth consecutive overtime game for Tulsa. Neither team managed a goal in the extra period, and Allen edged Tulsa 2-1 in a seven-round shootout to pick up the two points. Americans goaltender Stephon Williams stopped 46 of 47 in the win, while Oilers goalie Jake Hildebrand made 33 saves on 34 shots in the shootout defeat.
Tulsa continues its stretch of 14 consecutive road games next Sunday with another game at the Allen Event Center at 4:05pm against the Allen Americans. Catch all the action on The Sports Animal Radio Network (99.9FM/1550AM), www.tulsaoilers.com or ECHL.TV.
