OILERS EARN A POINT IN SECOND STRAIGHT SHOOTOUT LOSS
Tulsa led the entire game, before Colorado tied the score with 2:22 remaining and completed the comeback in a skills competition.
TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers led the ECHL-leading Colorado Eagles for 56 minutes and 34 seconds Saturday night, but skated away with a single point in a 5-4 shootout loss at the BOK Center.
The Oilers struck first 1:04 into the game, when Charlie Sampair banked in a rebound sitting in the crease. Sampair scored again at 3:12 to give Tulsa a 2-0 lead after Adam Pleskach forced a Colorado turnover in their own zone. The Eagles cut their deficit to one before the end of the period, as ECHL-leading scorer Michael Joly snapped a quick shot from the left circle past the blocker of Oilers goaltender Jake Hildebrand.
After missing seven games, Alexandre Ranger returned to the Oilers lineup and fired a shot from the half-wall over the shoulder of Eagles goalie Joe Cannata into the top of the net to make it 3-1 in the second period. Colorado answered on a power play opportunity, when Jake Marchment cleaned up his own rebound to bring the Eagles back to within one after 40 minutes.
Garrett Ladd scored nine seconds into the third period to give the Oilers their third two-goal advantage, but Marchment added his second of the game shortly thereafter to make it 4-3. Joly tallied his second goal of the game with the equalizer in the final three minutes of regulation, forcing overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period, Joly scored the only goal in a shootout to give Colorado the 5-4 comeback win, as Tulsa dropped its second straight shootout game.
