GRIZZLIES TOP OILERS IN OVERTIME
Tulsa earns a point in the standings, but Utah comes away victorious thanks to an overtime power play goal.
TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers battled back from two separate deficits, but fell 3-2 in overtime Friday against the Utah Grizzlies at the BOK Center.
Utah jumped out to a 1-0 lead, when Sam Windle was left all alone in the left circle and rang a wrist shot off the post and in behind ECHL Goaltender of the Month, Devin Williams. The Oilers evened the score on a Grizzlies turnover, when Dmitrii Sergeev set up Tommy Vannelli on a 2-on-1 for a tap-in goal.
The Grizzlies again took the lead early in the second period, when Kyle Thomas buried a rebound on a power play to make it 2-1, and former Tulsa goaltender Kevin Carr stopped all 18 Oilers shots in the frame to keep Utah in front heading into the third.
Oilers rookie Evan Richardson scored a short-handed goal 15 seconds into the third period to tie the game 2-2, and neither team scored through the rest of regulation. On an overtime power play, Taylor Richart blasted a one-timer over Williams’ glove to win the game for the Grizzlies.
The Oilers and Grizzlies face-off again Saturday on the York Plumbing Ice at the BOK Center at 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling 918-632-7825 or visiting www.tulsaoilers.com.
