MAVERICKS DEFEAT OILERS IN MISSOURI
After evenly played first period, Missouri pulls ahead in the second to beat Tulsa 6-3 Sunday.
INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Missouri Mavericks defeated the Tulsa Oilers 6-3 Sunday at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in the third game of the weekend for each team.
Missouri opened the scoring 8:19 into the first period, after the Oilers killed off the second Mavericks power play, when Radoslav Illo snuck a shot through the legs of Tulsa goaltender P.J. Musico. The Oilers tied the score at 1-1 on their first man-advantage, when Eric Drapluk ripped a shot under the crossbar for his first goal of the season.
The Mavericks jumped back into the lead, when Kevin Tansey fired a one-timer from the point on the third Missouri power play of the opening frame, but Danick Paquette buried a rebound with 2:14 left in the period to tie the game 2-2 after one.
For the third time, Missouri broke the tie and made it 3-2 at 5:56 of the second period, when Dan Correale scored on a 2-on-1 rush. The Mavericks then received their fifth power play of the game (the Oilers had just one at the juncture), and Dane Fox blasted a one-timer from high in the slot with 57 second left in the period to make it 4-2.
Reed Seckel added to Missouri’s lead early in the third period , and the Mavericks killed of a Tulsa 5-on-3 power play through the middle part of the stanza. Dylan Hubbs scored his second goal in as many nights to cut the deficit to 5-3 with 8:25 remaining, but the Oilers failed to convert on a third power play opportunity down the stretch. Shawn Pauly added an empty net goal in the final seconds to complete the scoring.
