OILERS SNAG 4-3 OVERTIME WIN AGAINST MAVERICKS

Tulsa, OK (February 3, 2016)– History repeated itself between the Tulsa Oilers and the Missouri Mavericks on Wednesday night in the BOK Center when the Oilers came from behind to notch a 4-3 overtime win. His second game with Tulsa, Jimmy Lodge was granted first star of the game with four assists. The Oilers skated away with two points and upped their record 21-16-2-2.

The first frame started off in favor of Missouri when forward Tanner Fritz racked up a wrist shot from the top of the slot at 13:48.

The Mavericks would dominate the first half of the second frame to bump their advantage. Missouri’s second goal came when Sebastien Sylvestre found Josh Holmstrom right in front of Kevin Carr. A quick snapper into the net and Missouri gained a 2-0 lead.

Carr was beat through the pipes again, this time by Matt Fin at 6:04 with help from Tyler Barnes and Jesse Graham.

Momentum shifted.

Less than two minutes later Oilers’ Captain Nathan Lutz would ink a goal for Tulsa to make things 3-1, a familiar position for the home team. The last time these squads met on January 23, they joined in Independence, Missouri where the Oilers went from a 3-1 deficit to a 6-3 victory. History would repeat itself.

New to the Oilers roster, Lodge would tally his first assist in the BOK Center, second with Tulsa.

Hope re-blossomed when Dennis Brown put the Oilers within one before time ran out in the second. Credited for assists were Lodge and Matt Konan.

Missouri held their trimming over the Oilers for almost a full 20 minutes in the third and Tulsa was only five seconds away from their fifth loss to the Mavericks. Until they weren’t anymore.

With Carr on the bench and an extra attacker for Tulsa, Adam Pleskach shoved in the goal behind Stephon Williams that forced an over-time decision. Lodge would claim another assist– Brown his second point.

Connor Kucera, who scored his first professional goal on Sunday against the Allen Americans, would mark his second. This time, it would be the overtime winner for the Oilers 47 seconds into extra time.

The Oilers are back at the BOK Center tomorrow night against the Utah Grizzlies. These two will meet for their third time in franchise history—second in the BOK Center. It will be Tulsa’s last $1 beer night of the season; come thirsty!

Did you know the Zamboni was invented by an American, Frank Zamboni? In fact, the Zambonis are made blocks from a rink in Southern California. The Zambonis are driven on neighborhood streets to be tested at the ice rink nearby. The first Zamboni was created out of a tractor, however, that method didn’t work. Eventually Frank invented a machine that shaved the ice, took the shavings and then proceeded to wash and squeegee the ice. These machines are so specialized that their costs can range into six figures.

The Oilers beat the Mavericks tonight to give them more points. These divisional wins are huge for the Oielrs–even when they are against teams that have 71 points (cough, cough).
