FORMER OILERS DAZZLE FOR DUCKS IN ROOKIE TOURNAMENT

Forwards Jack Badini,, Hunter Drew, Max Golod and Bryce Kindopp joined goaltender Roman Durny for the 2021 Rookie Faceoff Tournament

TULSA, OK — The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and AHL’s San Diego Gulls, had five former players suit up for the Ducks at the 2021 Rookie Faceoff Tournament in Scottsdale, AZ.

Jack Badini, Hunter Drew, Roman Durny, Max Golod and Bryce Kindopp played in all three games in the 2021 Rookie Faceoff Tournament, helping the Ducks to a 2-0-1-0 record — the best among the six competing teams.

Anaheim opened with a tilt against the San Jose Sharks’ rookie squad, defeating the division rivals 8-4 to open on a high note. Durny started the game between the pipes, allowing just one goal before conceding the crease to Gage Alexander in a preplanned goaltender exchange. Drew, who played defense with the Oilers before switching to forward last season in San Diego, tallied the fourth Ducks goal. Badini won the faceoff to Drew, who corralled the puck before snapping it home early in the second period. Anaheim finished the game with an 8-4 win.

Durny got his second-consecutive start for the Ducks against Colorado, earning a point in a 5-4 overtime loss. Badini shoveled home a rebound early in the third period, giving the Ducks their second goal of the night. Badini also fought reigning ECHL Rookie of the Year Matthew Boucher in the contest. Two Anaheim goals in the final minute of the third period forced overtime, with Kindopp screening the goaltender on both tallies.

Durny split the pipes once again with Alexander in the final game — a thrilling 5-4 victory over the host Arizona Coyotes. Golod scored his first of the tournament; sneaking the puck five hole on the power play to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Kindopp once again restored the Ducks’ lead in the third period, jamming home a rebound to make it 4-3 Anaheim. A goal in the final two seconds of the game gave the Ducks the ultimate victory, placing Anaheim with the best record in the tournament.

Badini, Drew, Durny, Golod and Kindopp played a combined 69 games for the Oilers over the past two seasons. Badini, Golod and Kindopp all scored their first professional goals with the Oilers last season. All three players finished the season in San Diego alongside Drew, who played in five games for the Oilers in the shortened 2019-20 season.

Durny finished last season with a 2.31 GAA, which was tied for second best in the ECHL among qualified goalies. Durny’s 14 wins led the Oilers last year, and the Slovakian native was perfect against shootout and penalty shot attempts. He also recorded his first professional shutout last season.

This is the second year of a three-year affiliation with the Anaheim Ducks and San Diego Gulls. The Anaheim Ducks open training camp on Thursday, Sept. 23 at Great Park Ice and FivePoint Arena in Irvine, CA. The Oilers begin training camp on Monday, Oct. 11 at the Oilers Ice Center. Oilers’ training camp will be open to the public, and a schedule will be released at a later date.

Alongside training camp, the Oilers will play two preseason games at the Wichita Ice Center on Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16. Both games will start at 7 p.m. CT. Tickets can be purchased through the following link https://www.wichitathunder.com/exhibition21

The Oilers kick off the 2021-22 season with a Friday night road tilt against the Rapid City Rush on Oct. 22 before opening at home against the Kansas City Mavericks on Saturday, Oct. 30.
